Sacramento, CA, Electric Meter Installation Underway
Utility Partners of America (UPA) has begun a large-scale installation of electric meters representing nearly 600,000 devices for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), a community owned electric utility.
As with any initiative of this scale, a “proof of concept” deployment was conducted. With its successful completion, the full installation began on December 6, 2010. To support the process, SMUD has provided an FAQ for its customers detailing the conversion process and highlighting the consumer and community benefits of smart meter usage.
To reinforce its commitment to green technology, UPA will provide hybrid electric vehicles to project managers on the SMUD initiative. In support of the local economy, UPA will utilize a local work force for the vast majority if the installation process.
For each of the last eight years, SMUD has received the highest customer satisfaction ratings of any utility in the state in the J.D. Power and Associates survey. SMUD received the second-highest score in the nation for commercial customer satisfaction in 2010.
